Two Springbok rugby legends have joined forces to launch a new generation of highly secure Cash-in-Transit (CIT) vehicles aimed at combating organised crime and protecting crews transporting cash across South Africa.
Springbok prop Ox Nché and Fidelity Services Group CEO Wahl Bartmann have partnered on the initiative, with the new armoured vehicles featuring advanced “Ox Armour” technology developed in collaboration with SVI Engineering.
The launch comes as South Africa continues to face challenges with CIT robberies, although recent statistics show encouraging declines. According to the Cash-in-Transit Association of South Africa (CITASA), there were 180 CIT robberies nationally in 2025 — a 13% decrease year-on-year. Fidelity itself reported a 23% drop in successful vehicle attacks and a 12.5% reduction in cross-pavement robberies.

The new vehicles boast several cutting-edge security features, including a reinforced monocoque hull that reduces body roll and improves resistance to side-impact ramming attacks. The floor incorporates a shallow V-shaped design made from high-tensile armoured steel for better protection against under-vehicle explosions. Ballistic protection meets demanding B6+ STANAG standards, while run-flat tyres allow continued mobility even after damage.
Nché, who has earned 47 Test caps for the Springboks and played a key role in major tournament victories, brings his reputation for resilience and performance under pressure to the partnership. Bartmann, a former Springbok who captained Natal to two Currie Cup titles, emphasised the importance of reliability in the CIT sector.

Fidelity processes around R246 billion in cash annually and operates a fleet of 1,162 armoured vehicles covering over 65 million kilometres each year.
This collaboration highlights how South African sporting icons are applying the discipline and toughness learned on the rugby field to real-world business and security challenges.
Alleyeson.co.za will continue monitoring developments in South Africa’s cash security sector and the role of local innovation in combating crime.
