Pretoria, South Africa – The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has officially submitted its second interim report to President Cyril Ramaphosa, marking another important milestone in its investigation into criminality, political interference, and corruption in South Africa’s criminal justice system.

The handover took place on Friday, 29 May 2026. Retired Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga is leading the commission, with this latest report understood to focus significantly on drug cartels and the illicit movement of narcotics. In line with standard procedure for commissions of inquiry, President Ramaphosa is the primary recipient of the report. Copies are also typically shared with key stakeholders, including the Minister of Police, Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, the National Director of Public Prosecutions, the Head of the Hawks, and the National Commissioner of Police. These institutions are expected to act on any referrals for prosecution or disciplinary measures contained in the report.

Key evidence presented during hearings included the theft of 541 kilograms of cocaine from Hawks offices in Port Shepstone and serious failures of due process in major drug busts in Gauteng. These findings have once again exposed deep systemic vulnerabilities within law enforcement and the justice system.President Ramaphosa will now study the report, while the commission continues its work.

Public hearings are scheduled to resume on Monday, 1 June 2026, with the final comprehensive report still expected by the end of August 2026.The Madlanga Commission was established to restore public trust and strengthen the rule of law by addressing corruption and organised crime networks that continue to undermine South Africa’s criminal justice institutions.Alleyeson.co.za will continue to follow developments as the commission advances its critical mandate.
