South Africa made a dominant start to their historic first ODI series against Namibia, winning the opening match by 99 runs (DLS method) at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek on Wednesday, 9 September 2026.
Namibia won the toss and elected to field. The Proteas posted a commanding 348 for 6 in 50 overs. Debutant opener Jordan Hermann announced himself in spectacular fashion, smashing 150 off 126 balls (17 fours, 3 sixes). His innings equalled the record for the highest score on ODI debut, matching the mark set by teammate Matthew Breetzke against New Zealand in 2025.
Hermann shared a 190-run second-wicket partnership with Tony de Zorzi (72 off 84). Useful contributions from Dewald Brevis (33) and Corbin Bosch (39 not out) helped South Africa reach a formidable total. Namibia’s Ruben Trumpelmann was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 68.
In reply, rain interrupted Namibia’s chase twice. Under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method, they were set a revised target of 262 in 31 overs. The hosts never got close, finishing on 162 for 8. Prenelan Subrayen took 4 for 29, while Kwena Maphaka claimed 2 for 32. Malan Kruger top-scored for Namibia with 34.
Hermann was named Player of the Match. The win gave South Africa a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. It was also the first-ever ODI between the two neighbouring nations.
Second ODI – Friday, 11 September 2026
The second ODI takes place on Friday at the same venue in Windhoek, starting at 09:30 local time.
South Africa will look to build on their strong performance and secure an unassailable series lead. Jordan Hermann’s form will be closely watched after his record-equalling debut, while the bowling unit led by Subrayen and Maphaka will aim to maintain pressure.
Namibia, still searching for their first win against a full-member side in this format, will need a much improved batting display and tighter bowling to challenge the Proteas. Captain Gerhard Erasmus and experienced all-rounders like JJ Smit and Ruben Trumpelmann will be key if the hosts are to force a contest.
A third and final ODI is scheduled for Sunday, 13 September. South Africa remain clear favourites, but Namibia will be determined to make the most of home conditions and gain valuable experience ahead of the 2027 Cricket World Cup.
